Who We Are

The Oakland Kendo Dojo was established in 1953 by founding members, Hiroshi Umemoto, Gordon Warner, 
Benjamin Hazard, Yoshinari Miyata, Shoichi Fujishima and Seiichi Umemoto.

Over the past 70 years we have hosted many guests including top kendo instructors and competitors throughout the United States, Japan and Europe and have taught countless men, women and children of all ages. 
Currently our 60 plus members is under the guidance 
of Chief Instructor and President of the Northern California Kendo Federation, Tanouye Sensei, Renshi Roku-dan (6 Dan).

Oakland Kendo Dojo Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a member of the Northern California Kendo Federation (NCKF) and the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF).
